For the past twenty years Dave Paterson has been a distinctive performer on the west coast scene in both acoustic and electric blues. As a solo act Dave re-interprets the country blues and country masters on vintage guitars while accompanying himself on harmonica (rack style). With a repertoire that ranges from Robert Johnson and Jimmy Reed on through to Hank Williams listeners are taken down the country roads and railway lines of the 30’s, 40’s & 50’s.
In 2007 Dave co-founded the popular vancouver roots act The Skillet Lickers. Playing everything from country blues to western swing this versatile band includes multi-instrumentalist Stacey Zabolotney on guitars, banjo, mandolin and harmony vocals and James Lillico on standup bass. They are occasionally joined by lap steel master Jimmy Roy (Ray Condo, Big Sandy) on lap steel and legendary drummer Steve Taylor (Ray Condo, Cousin Harley) on drums and washboard.
Dave’s latest project is Rollin’ and Tumblin’ an electric/eclectic blend of blues and blueyed soul …featuring songs by blues legends like T-Bone Walker, Elmore James and Sam Cooke ,as well as some funky/jazz instrumentals by Earl Hooker and Nat Adderly !
Joining Dave in this venture are many of the finest rhythm section players around the scene including…these great drummers ; James Badger(Lonesome Sinners), Chris “the wrist ” Nordquist(Cannery Row), and Sandy Smith (The Twisters) …and these excellent bass players; Sam Shoichet(Roma Swing Quartet), James Lillico (Murder Birds), Pat Darcus (Harpdog Brown) as well as frequent collaborator Vancouver blues piano great Dave Webb.
